Empowering Women Farmers Through Input Financing
The She Feeds Africa (Shefa) project is a women-focused agricultural support initiative aimed at equipping young women smallholder farmers in Northern Ghana with the resources and skills needed to increase productivity. Through access to quality inputs and training in Good Agronomic Practices (GAPs), the project promotes food security, economic empowerment, and inclusive agricultural growth.
Objectives
- Provide young women farmers with certified seeds, fertilizers, and essential inputs
- Improve food security by increasing yield and reducing input-related barriers
- Strengthen resilience and self-reliance in underserved rural communities
- Train beneficiaries in Good Agronomic Practices to enhance productivity
- Promote inclusive participation of women in productive agriculture
Target Beneficiaries
The project targets Young Women Farmers across the five northern regions of Ghana:
- Upper West
- Upper East
- Northern
- North East
- Savannah
With a reach of 500 beneficiaries, the project fosters equity by supporting women in underserved communities with both resources and knowledge to succeed in agriculture.
Project Activities
- Distribution of certified seeds, fertilizers, and other essential inputs
- Community mobilization and sensitization on women’s role in agriculture
- On-field training in Good Agronomic Practices (GAPs)
- Monitoring and support visits to improve adoption and impact
- Stakeholder engagement with traditional leaders and local institutions


Expected Outcomes / Impact
- 500 women farmers supported with critical farm inputs and training
- Improved crop yields and increased productivity among beneficiaries
- Enhanced household income and food availability
- Greater involvement of women in agriculture-led development
